Dry January: Mocktails That Pack A Serious Punch

Struggling through Dry January? Give these delicious mocktails a try. Made with seasonal ingredients, these mocktails are refreshing and kid-friendly, so that the whole family can enjoy.

Dry January, an annual initiative that take its roots from 1942 Finland, has steadily made its way to the U.S in recent years. This month long campaign asks participants to abstain from drinking alcohol for the entire month of January. But what are the benefits of Dry January? Well, as it happens, cutting back on drinking may just help you achieve your other health goals and resolutions for the year. Read on below to learn more about the benefits of reducing your alcohol intake.

Weight Loss: If weight loss is one of your goals for the New Year, decreasing your alcoholic intake might be a way to help. In a recent study, 3 out of 5 Dry January participants reported weight loss throughout the month. As alcoholic drinks are generally loaded with sugar and about 150 calories per drink, cutting back on alcohol can lead to a lower caloric intake which can aid in weight loss. Drinking beverages that help to hydrate, rather than alcohol (which tends to have a dehydrating effect) can also help decrease bloating.

Improved Sleep: Let’s face it, we could all use more sleep and taking alcohol out of your routine can lead to a better night’s sleep over time. A clearer mind not only helps you feel more energized, but can also help you stay more focused during those waking hours.

Better Health: Looking to improve your health overall? Drinking less can help to prevent heart disease, poor digestion, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even some cancers.

Not ready for a total alcoholic detox? You don’t need to cut out alcohol completely to reap the benefits. Merely cutting back on alcoholic beverages can have a positive impact on your health. Try swapping out every other drink for water or a spritzer, having one less drink than usual when you’re out, or even crafting a delicious mocktail as a fantastic substitute.
