In my experience of dinner preparations, I tend to think of a “balanced meal” as one that contains the three heavy hitters of a “healthy diet”: carbohydrates, protein, and a vegetable of some kind. Pasta, meat sauce, broccoli. Rice, chicken, salad. Potatoes, steak, broccoli again.
When it comes to pickling, the Portlandia folks got it right…mostly. Staplers and tennis shoes aside, there really isn’t much that you can’t pickle, especially now that farm stands and home gardens are bursting with amazing end of summer produce.
